Female Falun Dafa Practitioners

Female Falun Dafa practitioners in China. are persecuted by the Chinese government and especially the Chinese police since 1999.
In 1999 the Chinese government under the presidency of Jiang Zemin banned the religion of Falun Dafa. Their peaceful demonstrations were considered illegal activities by the government. In the Falun Dafa practitioners opinion the ban was an act of jealousy of the present president bcause of the groups popularity on the part of Jiang Zemin, a former president. Even though it is banned, many followers of the religion kept practicing their beliefs in the public. That is the reason for their persecution.
So far, the persecution made many Falun Dafa practitioners give up their beliefs because they are scared. But especially women who refuse to give up their beliefs are the target of extreme torture. They receive horrible punishments for doing or saying anything that is related to Falun Dafa. The number of the women who died because of abuse and torture is not clear. Many “vanished” and never returned. More than 100,000 practitioners were sentenced into re-education camps.

Major Event:
The following event was used by the Chinese government to justify the banning of Falun Dafa. On April 25 of 1999, about 10,000 people assembled in front of the Central Appeal Office which is the headquarter of the People’s Republic of China. They lined up on a two kilometer stretch to disperse peacefully after they heard that the Premier of the PRC had agreed to their requests. Nevertheless, it was widely reported by the Chinese media that the organizing of a protest in the heart of the Communist Party of China by Falun Gong practitioners alarmed many senior leaders, particularly Jiang Zemin.
